About Glen Carlou Wine Estate
Glen Carlou is a well-respected winery in the northern foothills of the Simonsberg mountain and forms part of the Hess group. Chairman and founder of Hess Family Estates, Donald M. Hess has “married his passion for New World winemaking with his love affair with contemporary art” which is evident in the Hess Museum of Contemporary Art at the winery and 75 hectares planted to vineyards with white and red varieties.
When visiting this estate, take a walk around the museum which was opened in 2006 and view exhibitions from different artists such as Ouattara Watts and Andy Goldsworthy. Amongst boulders and rocks, you’ll find the Zen Fynbos Garden complete with a meditation pond and when touching the plants in the brush garden, the plants will surprise you and release wonderful fragrances. There is no better place to relax and escape it all.
Yields are kept low and the farm produces three wine ranges which include Prestige, Contemporary and Classic as well as special releases of Glen Carlou Unwooded Chardonnay and Glen Carlou Zinfandel . The restaurant has scenic views of the mountain and vineyards where you can sit beneath the terrace to enjoy the wide selection of cuisine and wines.
