Africa is a land of inexplicable natural beauty and diversity. It is magical in its ability to draw an artist in, appeal to their every sense and coerce them into a world of creativity in abundance. Caroline Gibello is one such creative; an explorer and adventurer. After qualifying as a zoologist, Caroline set her heart and mind free as she travelled the world. She was a shepherdess in Scotland, she worked with orangutans in Sumatra and she rehabilitated monkeys in the balmy verdant setting of the Amazon Jungle.
Today, Caroline is proud to have opened the Galleria Gibello in Franschhoek, just outside Cape Town. This gallery showcases her wildlife photography and her unique representation of the real, unadulterated Africa. Her reverence for the spirit of the animal, her appreciation for its power and beauty, and her absolute love for and loyalty to Africa is the essence of every image. Her style is serene and engaging, leaving the viewer in no doubt as to the wonderment that the artist felt as she looked on, immersed in the wildness around her and capturing it intimately.
In addition to Gibello’s photography, the gallery is also home to a range of other pieces of various media. Sculptures, paintings and drawings by other well-known and -respected South African artists like Heike Allerton-Davies, Elsabe Milandri and Sam Allerton, all have their place in this hub.
Galleria Gibello is situated on Franschhoek’s main road, in what was originally the brandy distillery. Fresh coffee and irresistible baked treats complement the arty experience perfectly. There is also a comfortable lounge that is well stocked with photographic books and journals on all things African.
Franschhoek is acclaimed as one of the primary hotspots for excellent food and wine, and is brimming with history and culture. It offers a vibrant destination that is surrounded by the breath-taking vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges and the sprawling vineyards for which the Cape Winelands are so well known and loved. Cape Town and its international airport are about an hour’s drive away.
