Gaaitjie, roughly meaning ‘nook’ in Afrikaans, is the ultimate foodie destination along the West Coast of the Cape region. Legendary chef, Suzi Holtzhausen, delivers West Coast inspired slow food with panache, sourcing fresh seafood and local ingredients for her menu.
The starter, mains and dessert menu is as small and intimate as the venue. Dishes such as angelfish bobotie; chicken liver peri-peri vetkoek with craime fraiche, and chowder with scallop and green pea wantons, kick off the Gaaitjie experience with a taste bud exploding grand opening. Cape and West Coast influences come through in the mains menu, with an ever-changing selection of memorable dishes such as the braised lamb shank; yellowtail fillets; snoek lasagne and roasted quail on a warm beetroot salad.
Gaaitjie is a beautiful combination of exquisite locally influenced cuisine and a rustic seaside location. Remember to request a table on the terrace, if dining in Summer, and one near the fire in the colder months.
