The top and bottom layer of a kite meets at a tapered point much like an aeroplane wing. The kite's layer on top curves slightly from the leading edge of the kite while the bottom layer has a flat surface design. The support structure of this light surface wingspan typically rests on a crossbar shaped frame also made of a light material like plastic. The air tries to pass over both the top and bottom layers of the kite wing causing it to lift off the ground as the smaller surface area at the belly of the kite allows the air to move over it faster causing the kite to rise.
A kite meeting moving air will take to flight, keeping it flying may require some airspeed, which may require some quick footwork on your part. No motor means much movement on your part. Much movement on you part means much success at launch. Much success means much skill. Acquiring much skill means acquiring much fun. Acquiring much fun means acquiring a kite. Hip hip hooray; up, up and away.
