Eden Restaurant & Coffee Shop in Ceres, is a serene indoor and al fresco venue, specializing in scrummy breakfasts, great coffee and luscious lunches. A full a la carte menu, with an emphasis on delicious South African favourites, is offered between 12h00 and 14h00, and offers everything you could possibly desire.

Breakfasts include healthy and a little more decadent options, plus a great variety of toasted sandwiches. Baked goods such as muffins and cake with a selection of speciality coffees and other hot drinks, fill the gap between breakfast and lunch. For lunch, one could have the lighter salad option, or the chef and owner’s speciality - the calamari steak. Calamari strips, escargots and seafood soup look enticing on the starter menu. A selection of salads including Greek, French and Blue Cheese, are perfect for the table, between courses. Seafood seems to be the emphasis amongst the mains, including pan-fried sole; sole Colbert; kingklip; pan-fried linefish; prawns and calamari, all served with a baked potato, vegetables or rice.

Other delicious offerings on the mains menu include pork, chicken and beef schnitzel; pork cordon bleu and chicken saltimbocca. Meat is taken very seriously at Eden, with the rump; fillet; sirloin; T-bone and spare ribs all prepared to lip-smacking perfection. Chef’s specialities include the fillet escargot; sirloin Café de Paris; pepper fillet; monkeygland steak and the sirloin in lemon.

Come hungry for the combo platters, pairing mains such as the calamari steak and sirloin, or chicken schnitzel, sirloin and calamari strips, all served with a selection of accoutrement. The extensive kiddies’ menu is most impressive, considering the dismal state of food for the younger members of the family on most menus in South Africa. Think kiddies’ ribs; chicken wings; steak strips; calamari strips; steak roll and a variety of burgers.
