Dutoitskop Trail is a breathtaking hiking trail that starts at the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve office on Franschhoek Pass. The route climbs 700m up to the summit of the Dutoitskop mountain, offering views that stretch over the stunning Franschoek Valley and Wemmershoek Mountains.
The out-and-return route is based in Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve, which is part of the UNESCO declared Boland Biosphere Reserve.
The route offers a diverse experience of flora and fauna, including indigenous fynbos, proteas, pincushions, restios, ericas and bulbs. The Franschhoek Tourism offers permits and maps, as does the Hugenot Museum.
This 5 hour long route is moderately easy; challenging enough for the keen and experienced hiker, and easy enough for fit walkers. The entire trail spans 12km, to Dutoitskloof and back.
