Rianie Strydom took over the wine-making reigns at Dombeya in 2005 and she has continually brought fine wines to South Africa which has shown in various awards such as a Veritas Awards Double-Gold Medal in 2007 for the 2005 Boulder Road Shiraz.
Grapes at the vineyard are harvest early and hand-sorted into fermentation tanks in the cellar. Every month, you can visit the estate once a month for their Winemaker’s Sunset sessions where you’ll get a three course meal from Long Table restaurant and wine from their cellar.
Dombeya Shiraz 2006 won Gold at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. This is the second release of the Dombeya Boulder Road Shiraz. Their 2005 vintage also won an award Double Gold Medal at the 2007 Veritas Awards, which is one of only five such awards for Shiraz in South Africa that year.
Long Table restaurant benefits from a peaceful country setting amongst the vineyards of Dombeya in an old angora wool factory on the farm. Dombeya herb garden along with suppliers of organic vegetables, fresh seafood and meat all supply the restaurant. Dombeya have a scholarship to find and sponsor South African graduate winemakers from disadvantaged backgrounds. The scholarship assists them in overseas opportunities on wine estates.
