Winemaker Gesie Van Deventer has always dreamed of producing fine wines and transformed from an advocate to an oenologists to make her dream become a reality and open a small cellar north-west of Paarl. Together with her husband, Johan van Deventer, this estate continually produces award-winning wines. In 1998, the family built their first cellar by hand and saw their maiden vintage win the 2001 Paarl Shiraz Challenge.
When settling in Windmeul, everyone else planted Chardonnay, whilst she held firm to her believes that Paarl is red-wine country. She wants to ensure that only world class wine is produced and quantities remain limited. They have 27 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinotage, Ruby Cabernet and Shiraz.
Some of their wine awards include a Seal of approval at Swiss International Wine Competition 2008, 4-Star rating in the John Platter wine Guide for their Pinotage 2005, Gold at the 2006 Michelangelo International Awards for the Brahms Chenin Blanc 2005 and Silver Best in Class at the International Wine and Spirits Competition 2006 for their Brahms Pinotage 2004 which is sold out. Relax in the fountain courtyard overlooking the dam, celebrate with a cosy dinner in one of two cellar rooms or get married in the chapel beneath the olive trees.
