Die Plaat is a private-ish beach, 15km's out of the main village of Stanford, which can be reached by a gravel and sand road. It can only be reached by 4x4 or beach buggy, as it is preceded by kilometres of sand. Pristine and untouched, with pure white sand and crazy dunes for boarding, Die Plaat is well worth the drive.
Due to its hidden location, Die Plaat is an excellent fishing spot. Remember to pack plenty of food & drink, as it is completely isolated, or order a picnic with a seriously gourmet Italian flavour from Graze slow food café in Stanford, by calling 082 491 8317.
Schools of dolphin can often be seen frolicking in the waves, while they feed on fish. It’s also perfect for whale watching during the ‘whale season’, which usually starts in June and carries through to December.
