About Delheim Cellar

Delheim is situated in the Simonsberg region and is owned by ‘Spatz’ Sperling and his family. Its origins go back to the 1930s when Hans Otto Hohsenhein and his wife Deli bought it; hence the name Delheim. Their nephew Spatz helped at the estate and in 1957 it was turned over to him on a profit-sharing basis.

150ha of their farm is planted to vine, a quarter is fynbos and the rest if a pine plantation. His children Nora and Victor Sperling also help run the farm with careful consideration of the environment. This is a farm producing great wine in an ecologically sustainable way. Visit the atmospheric wine cellar and learn about their process of making wines.

Spatz Sperling joined local farms in initiating a Greater Simsonsberg Conservancy in 2004 to protect Swartland Shale Renosterveld and further eco-tourism projects such as mountain biking, hiking evolved at the Sperling-owned farm Delvera. This also sparked an agriculture village with craft shops, a nursery, olive tastings and more.

Enjoy al fresco meals on the terraces when it’s warm or a cheese platter beside the fire in winter. The restaurant serves traditional German and south African cuisine. Their wine offerings include a Chardonnay Sur Lie 2001, Merlot 2000, Cabernet Sauvignon 2000, Pinotage 2000, Grand Reserve 1999, Grand Reserve 1998 and Vera Cruz Estate Shiraz 1999.

To view more wine estates in the region see Bottelary Hills Wine Estates or see South Africa Wine Estates for a general overview and links to other wine producing regions.
