Perfectly situated in the south of South Africa’s Paarl wine district, is De Zoete Inval Estate, which translates appropriately to “a sweet falling.” De Zoete Inval maximizes the unique climate that Paarl has to offer – it is located on the Berg Rivers banks, has chilly winters - essential to the production of quality wines, and then hot summers that encourage the ripening of the grapes.
Special mention goes also to the strongly southerly wind that whips through the vineyards and keeps mildew at bay while and reducing the pressure of other diseases. The, sandy, marginal soils have also impacted on the vines by keeping their growth in check while producing a consistent yield of ripe and well balanced fruit. Another tendency of the soil is that it produces a lower alcohol wine that carries finesse while displaying more of the terroir than most others.
The Estate was originally granted to Hercule Des Pres in 1688, making it one of the oldest in the Cape, about two hundred years later the Frater family arrived from the Scottish lowlands and settled there. The rest is history as five generations on the Frater family continue to produce superb wines. Take a trip out to the south of Paarl and enjoy the white, red and dessert wines they have on offer.
