Here is a winery totally dedicated to the lovers of quality bubbly. If this is you, then why have you not popped into Colmant Cap Classique yet? After moving from Belguim to Franschhoek in 2005, French owner Jean-Philippe Colmant and his family bought a 5-hectare plot, financed from the sale of his Belguim tombstone-making business and began planting Chardonnay due to the advice from a nearby nursery.
He soon realised that there wasn’t a single winery that exclusively produced Cap Classique sparkling wine. In light of the growing market for high quality bubbly, he decided to fill the gap in the market and produce Cap Classique for the slightly less price sensitive market. In 2005, the Colmants began producing Cap Classique wines and importing Champagne.
You are encouraged not to compare the champagne to the Cap Classique as they are unique and possess their own qualities. Whilst Cap Classique is the name for any wine made in South Africa accordingly to the Methode Traditionnelle. The words "Champagne" and "Champenoise" may exclusively be used for wines made in Champagne, a region in the North of France. Join the owner as he takes you on a cellar tour in their ‘Cape-vernacular style’ cellar built from scratch.
