The vineyards were planted in 1966 when Darling was better known as a wheat farming area. Cloof harvested fir the first time in 1998 and since then the estate has grown from strength to strength.
The vineyards boast 145 hectares and produce top quality fruit. The position of the vineyard ensures that the south-easterly wind protects the fruit from rot. While at night the cool breeze of the Atlantic Ocean intensifies flavours on the vines.
The use of bush vines ensures the grapes are protected from direct sunlight and the smaller berries concentrate the flavour. The wines produced have funky names such as "The Very Sexy Shiraz" and "The Very Posh Pinotage" or "The Dark Side" which is a rich blend of Cab Sav with hints of Shiraz. Why not try "Happy Dragon", "Daisy Darling" or "40 Days" - it all sounds simply delicious!
