Kloof is the Afrikaans word for ravine/gorge. Kloofing is an adventure activity which utilises these natural little 'valleys'. Typically the result of stream cutting erosion these rocky pockets possess perennial watercourses that cool and spectacular waterfalls that beautify.
A kloofer is an outdoor adventure seeker who ascends these unspoilt ravines (kloofs) by all variety of hiking, walking, climbing and scrambling only to descend into the watercourse by bum sliding, cliff jumping, plunging and abseiling (rappelling)... for the rush.
South Africa is world renown for its mountain faces and cliffs that thrill with descents into an array of rock pools from a variety of heights. The kloofs are narrow and deep requiring skill and experience to navigate the danger. The gradients range in severity but on the intense kloofs once committed to their ascent there is no way of turning back, one needs to complete the course and follow through with the 'plunge' (up to 85m).
Coasteering is an additional adventure-tourism activity encompassing the movement across rocky Cape coastlines through intertidal zones only by swimming and free climbing (no boats, boards, and craft). Frixion Adventures caters for coast and kloof adventures from mild to wild, for the beginner to the die hard. All safety equipment is provided along with qualified guides.
