About Charles Fox Estate
Charles and Zelda Fox first bought Furneaux Farm eight years ago with their goal being to make the closes thing to Champagne right here in Elgin Valley. An Olympian and venture capitalist, Charles is no stranger to a challenge and so they began on a mission and to this day there are 6.3 of 33 hectares planted to classic varieties for Bubbly such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier which is the most difficult one to grow here.
With Paul Wallace as the viticulturist, their 10 block vineyard has been ideally matched to the various soil types on the north-east and south facing slopes. They sought advice from a Riems-based Champagne producer named Nicolas Follet who brought a wealth of wisdom stemming from the bottling line to the design of the cellar.
The maiden release came in the form of the 2010 Charles Fox Brut, and Brut Rosè last year. The Charles Fox Cap Classique Brut is made up of three cultivars including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It has pear and apple notes and nutty element sue to the time spent on the lees. The Charles Fox Cap Classique Brut Rosé is a blend of morello cherries, red currant and strawberries and is comprised of 95% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier.
