Visit the Castle Military museum in Cape Town and learn about the military and political history of the Cape. The museum is found in the Castle of Good Hope which is has been a national monument since 1936. Built sometime between 1666 and 1679, the Castle was originally used as a service post for the Dutch East India Company and then became a civilian and military station.
Exploring the castle is incredibly fascinating and its easy to see how this was formidable and seemingly impenetrable fort. The museum houses one of the most impressive sword collections in the country. Discover facts, artifacts and exhibits from the 16th to 19th centuries, displaying the countries historical wars and the militaries connection with the Portuguese, Khoi, Dutch and English.
