Within the golden triangle of Stellenbosch is where you’ll find the Cape Station Winery. It was first opened in 2007. This wine estate pays homage to the very roots of winemaking in South Africa. Especially to the Dutch East India Company who found a station at the Cape of Good Hope in 1652. With Jan Ven Riebeeck at the helm, the station served as a refreshment station for the ships and sailors making their way to the East from Europe.
South Africa’s very first vines were said to be planted by Van Riebeeck and his men at the station and was therefore the birth spot of winemaking. The winery boasts a young and vibrant cellar team who utilize a fine balance of modern winemaking techniques with more traditional techniques. This is ensures tasty wines and all blends are fruit driven and easily accessible wines.
They also offer a more exclusive Limited Release range. The compass and old African map can be found on their label and hint at the tradition on which their wines are based.
