A refreshingly real approach to the climatic challenges of growing grapes and winemaking in the Olifants River region, located on the West Coast of South Africa, Cape Rock embraces what nature has provided and uses it to complement its wines instead of disguising the true origin of the grapes through more modern wine making techniques. Cape Rock can be found roughly 300km North of Cape Town in between the towns of Vredendal and Lutzville on the banks of the Olifants River.
Established in the year 2000 on the dawn of the third millennium, Cape Rock started making their wine soon shortly after with a Shiraz Viognier blend taking the prize as their first bottled wine mainly for sale to the bulk buyers. A single cultivar Cabernet Sauvignon followed in 2007 and the rest is history with award winning wines to boot.
The production can still be described as humble and even niche with a total between five and seven thousand bottles being produced annually. Their aim is to produce wines that can mature for a time, but that are also elegant and easy to drink, right from the moment the corked is pulled.
