Cape Flower Route
Citrusdal and the Cape Flower Route

Citrusdal is not only famous for citrus production and natural hot water springs, it also falls onto the Cape Flower Route - a journey through the explosion of exquisite flowers that burst into life between July and October. Over 4000 flower species can be seen spread across the Cape Flower Route like a heavenly psychedelic carpet, and people from all across the globe make their pilgrimage to view nature in all its glory.

Being just two hours drive from Cape Town, Citrusdal is a conveniently close location to base yourself at when making the flower pilgrimage - on foot, by bicycle, on horseback or by vehicle. Flowers are most spectacular between 11:00am and 16:00pm, so remember to time your day trips accordingly. There are endless hiking trails through the flowers and to viewing points above acres of blossoms that will render you speechless, because the majesty of nature and her exquisite work are truly something to behold.

Bring the whole family along to your Cape Flower Route adventure and let your children experience something that is pure and beautiful. The Western Cape really knows how to put on a show during flower season, as do all the guesthouse and local restaurant owners, who’ll welcome you with their typically warm West Coast hospitality.

Plan a day trip along the West Coast on the way back, where the West Coast National Park spans from Langebaan to Yzerfontein, and view antelope such as hartebeest and bontebok amongst the flowers.
