About Calais Wine Estate
In the heart of the South African wine-making region renowned for its premium wines, is an estate with a history dating back to 1692 when French Huguenot Jean Manje took ownership of it, making it one of the first in the Paarl region; Calais Wine Estate is one of very few wine estates in South Africa allowed to claim such pedigree. Put into perspective, the first wines ever pressed in the Cape were done so on the 2nd of February 1659.
Of course, Paarl has the idyllic climate suited to the making of the finest wines, this fact has been proven over and over again throughout the regions three hundred and fifty years’ worth of wine production. In 2006 Calais Wine Estate added the boutique Kleinvallei Winery to its heritage and Bordeaux style red wines are crafted on both estates.
The philosophy here at Calais Wine Estate is based on the perfect balance provided to them by nature. It all starts with perfecting the micro and macro climates in the vineyards and carrying this attention to detail through to the bottling.
