Boegoekloof trail is one of several trails in the Hottentots-Holland reserve. The others are Nuweberg to Landdroskop Hut via the Sphinx; Nuweberg to Boesmanskloof Hut also known as the Orchard Route, Nuweberg to Boesmanskloof Hut and Boesmanskloof to Landdroskop Hut. There is also a kloofing trip up the Riviersonderend and a there and back Palmiet River trail (that is a shorter option).
There is a limit of 12 people per permit for overnight and day trails , so book in advance.
The entrance to the reserve is at Nuweberg on Viljoen's Pass between Grabouw and Villiersdorp – a rugged, mountainous reserve that is perfect for hiking.
Boegoekloof trail starts at Nuweberg and shares the first part of the route with the Palmiet trail and the Boesmanskloof (Nuweberg to Boesmanskloof Hut) trail. It is an out-and -return route through a kloof that begins along a jeep track beneath a grove of pine trees, heading up through fynbos to the Palmiet River.
Crossing the river and heading right takes you on to Suicide Gorge, but if you keep on along the edge of the Palmiet you will reach a series of pools that then take you in to the kloof (Eensbedrogen pool).
It is possible to do the hike without an overnight, and it should take most of the day, particularly with a lunch break in the Boegoekloof.
