About Die Bergkelder Wine Centre

Bergkelder means ‘cellar in the mountain’ and was built along the very steep Papegaaiberg mountain slopes. The mountain was named after the clay pigeon shoot which in the 1700s signalled the birthday of Simon van der Stel.

One of the first of its kind, it became a pioneer in inspiring wine makers to start growing classic noble varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

The estate showed great innovation and was one of the leaders in maturing wine in new French oak. Come 1998, the unfiltered Fleur du Cap range was launched to keep the grape’s character and flavours. The Fleur du Cap Unfiltered range offers a selection of four noble cultivars - Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

A hands-on winemaking approach and made in an environmentally friendly manner. The Fleur du Cap Standard range is made up of the following wines - Fleur du Cap Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Noble Late Harvest, Natural Light, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Pinotage.

These wines mature underground the cellar inside the Papegaaiberg before going to the bottle-maturation cellar. Bergkelder give great tips for wine tasting. Before drinking the wine, there are steps before that such as visual, smell aspects followed by tasting.
