About Barrydale Cellar
Barrydale Cellar began to distil its well known brandy in 1941 and ever since, their product range has increased dramatically. Their two pot still brandies include Joseph Barry Traditional Cape Pot Still Brandy and Joseph Barry Muscat Cape Pot Still Brandy.
The cellar is South Africa’s leading independent distillery. It was in 1976 that the cellar first began making wines using dry cultivars of the Tradouw valley. It now produces 1500 tons of wine. Distiller Ferdi Smit and cellar master Marius Prins continue to wield magic with the wines and brandies.
Together with the Ladismith cellar and the Oudtshoorn cellar, they have put the Klein Karoo on the wine map of South Africa.
This Tradouw Region was declared a separate region in 1990 and has cultivars including Ruby Cabernet and Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. The soil and climate result in rich red wines, balanced dry white wines and sweet Muscat.
