This hike is officially closed, according to the Footprint hiking club, although the Western Cape Nature Conservation Board will apparently still allow those hikers who have already walked the trail to book it again.
The trail starts almost at the top of the Robinson pass where there is a lone board solemnly marking the spot. The Attakwaskloof Pass, in the heart of the Outeniqua Mountains, is a gravel off-road that runs between Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn that in turn lies within the Outeniqua Nature Reserve.
Early settlers used this trail to trek inland from the coast for over 150 years. Whilst the stretches per day are long and you need to be rather fit to walk them, and the trail is not always well maintained in places, the walk is supposed to be incredible - fantastic examples of fynbos and complete seclusion.
