Alluvia is truly a wine estate that has it all and then some. Only 6.5km from Stellenbosch, it is on the Helshoogte Pass in the Banhoek Valley. Its name is derived from the Latin word, alluvius, which means “to wash against” and refers to the process of soil being deposited over many years by running water resulting in extremely fertile soil.
One of the great authors of her time, Catherine Heywood owed the farm and used the Manor House (built in 1914) as the first Montessori School in the country. Children from nearby farms were schooled outside in the summer and in the dining room during the winter months. Mr Delarey Brugman took over ownership in 2002.
Choose from truly luxury guest house accommodation units each with their own unique view and private location or a more ‘country living’ self-catering accommodation opening out onto the vineyards, pool and private garden. There are breakfast picnics which can be delivered to your doorstep each morning with fruit, yoghurt, museli, coffee and muffins to get you ready for the day ahead. If you want to really indulge and live the high life, take a trip on their estate’s plane which is the perfect way to see the Cape.
