The Totius House Museum was once the home of the poet and writer of famous letters. His pen name was Totius, his birth name Jakob Daniel du Toit. He was a professor and theologian who loved the Afrikaans language. He remains arguably Potchefstroom’s best known resident.
He lived in the house that is now the museum, built in 1905, when he was the principal of the Theological Seminary of the Dutch Reformed Church. Today, it still contains furniture, pictures, utensils and books that du Toit and his family owned and used. In addition, the Totius House Museum is also committed to preserving his writings, providing an intimate peek into the life and passions of this historical figure.
Admission to the museum is free of charge.
