Alongside the Mooi River in Potchefstroom you will find the 70 hectare OPM Prozesky Bird Sanctuary. Bird lovers from all over the world flock here to view a variety of outstanding species.
Many hides are strategically dotted around allowing you a great spot to view these magnificent birds in their natural habitat. Bridges and paths are looked after and allow you easy access on foot through the sanctuary to various look out spots.
While here you could see the Black Crake, African Purple Swamphen, Black Winged Stilt, Waxbills, Warblers, Pipits and more as well as a number of ducks and herons.
The Birdlife Wesvaal holds special open days on the first Saturday of every month for new birdwatchers. Guides will take newcomers around the reserve teaching them about the birds and more about environmental awareness. There are two hikes that you can take part in on the reserve allowing for a more active birding experience.
