The Half

About The Half

Affectionately known as The Half, The Halfway House is a bar and beer garden that is a favourite amongst locals and frequented by those visiting Kimberley in the Northern Cape Province. This building dates back to 1872, when it was established on the main road between two major diamond mines to cater to the tired, hot miners in need of an ice-cold beer. Over the following generations, it was frequented by an enormous array of South Africans and foreign visitors alike.

Some of the better known patrons include Cecil John Rhodes, Barney Barnato, John Currey and William Shalders. Today, this pub has a stylish, comfortable ambience. The menu is varied and comprehensive, and the setting is ideal for a number of encounters – from business lunches and quick bites to celebrations with family and friends. There is a pool table as well as an ATM machine at The Half.

There is a formal lounge area inside the main building, which is equipped with WiFi in most areas and exudes an air of elegance and professionalism. The beer garden is more relaxed and has misting fans and umbrellas to keep diners cool while they enjoy hearty meals and excellent refreshments.
