About Hantam Huis Restaurant
Hantam Huis Restaurant is nestled in Calvinia, a little town in the Northern Cape Province that exudes a unique history and charm. This same elegance pervades the restaurant, which is situated in a building the dates back to 1854. This makes it the oldest authentic house in the town. It took more than 10 years to restore it back to its current glory. In 1983, this building was declared a National Monument.
Hantam Huis is fully licensed and has an extensive menu. It includes delicious breakfasts, tasty lunches and hearty dinners, which celebrate traditional favourites and local flavours. This is the perfect spot for romantic dates, a family get-together or a celebration with friends. Home-baked breads and cakes, traditional coffees and fantastic herbal teas are also available. Mutton on the spit is a popular choice amongst those who choose Hantam Huis as the venue for their event.
Attached to the restaurant is a museum, which provides an insight into the intriguing history of the area and the cultures that continue to shape it. The curio shop gives visitors the opportunity to buy mementoes, handcrafted goods, and gifts that will remind them of their time in Calvinia.
