About Family Safaris at Ant's Nest

The Ant’s Nest and Ant’s Hill family safaris take place within the Waterberg region of the beautiful Limpopo Province of South Africa. As such, they showcase some of the most gloriously untouched parts of this country and make them real to young and old alike.

However, what really sets Ant’s Nest and Ant’s Hill lodges apart is their approach to exposing little ones to the wonders of nature while including parents in this experience. Parents or guardians are encouraged to join the children in discovering the fauna and flora of Limpopo so that they can be a part of the awe and wonder that young ones experience when learning about the natural bounty all around them.

Children under four years of age, who are too young to be taken on the longer out-rides, will be taken around the area of the lodge on tame ponies, while older ones are able to ride ponies through the countryside, with the help of an experienced guide. Riding lessons are also available to those wanting to improve their skills while visiting Ant’s Hill and Ant’s Nest.

Younger visitors are sure to love the bug and spoor trails that are designed especially for kids. These teach them about how to identify what animals are nearby, and to follow and find them in the bush. They may even spot some of the local antelope in its natural environment. Game drives in open 4 x 4 vehicles are always popular adventures; and young and old alike should keep a look-out for rhinos, giraffes, baboons, jackals, hyenas, caracals, and even the elusive leopards of the Waterberg. There is an array of birdlife to be found too, and young ones usually love being the ones to make a feathered find in the trees or bushes.

Interestingly, the rarely seen sable antelope can be seen at this reserve, as a small breeding herd was started up in 2001. This has grown and is now well-established and impressive.

Both Ant’s Nest and Ant’s Hill have a number of amenities that are especially for younger guests and their families after a safari or two. These include a swimming pool, trampoline and games area.
