Umhlanga meaning 'the place of reeds' in Zulu is also the place of sunrises in any language. On the north coast of Durban, this east facing beach starts its stretch up 200 km of natural rugged coastline.
Watch as the African sunrise swims in hues of red while South African footprints wash in the warm Indian Ocean. Often hot and sticky Durban days start down on this dark caramel sand with a salute from the sun that is warm and golden. A broad beach beckons early walkers to welcome a dawn with a stroll beside rock pools. Witness the shift change from lighthouse to light source and be the first to the start of a Durban day.
