The loveliness of the KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa can be enjoyed in a number of ways. On the back of a trained horse is just one of these, but is certainly one of the most memorable too. The Rain Farm Game and Lodge is situated just outside Ballito, on the north coast of the province. Ballito is a popular coastal holiday destination located near to Durban (and the King Shaka International Airport) that continues to invite families and visitors from all over the world to its scenic countryside.
It is inland from Ballito that the Rain Farm Game and Lodge is found. No fewer than eight horse riding trails are offered by this farm. These allow friends and families to traverse the countryside at a comfortable pace while taking in the warm sunshine and crisp, clear air. The horses travel through the habitat of several antelope species and other herbivores, allowing their passengers to get close to these peaceful grazers in an unobtrusive way.
The different trails are designed to cater to riders of various ages and abilities, and each trail is guided by an experienced professional that has insight into the facts and some trivia to keep the ride fun and informative. However, it is advised that riders under 15 years of age be experienced and comfortable on horseback. All riders must weigh less than 90 kilograms.
The rides are concluded with a gourmet meal, prepared by the resident chef, and a cool swim in the pool for those needing to freshen up and ‘refuel’. In addition, there are miniature golf facilities, adding to the adventure of the trails. Special rates and packages are available for larger groups and booking in advance is essential.
