A mere three hour drive from Johannesburg, Oaklands can be found nestled in the Drakensberg foothills, above van Reenen’s pass. You will catch your breath as the Country Manor unfolds before you like a scene from a beautiful film, complete with polo fields and galloping horses - Oaklands is spectacular to behold.
With her finger firmly on the epicurean pulse, executive chef, Kathy Romer-Lee, Silwood Cordon Bleu graduate and sailor of the high seas, draws her inspiration from 20 years of globe trotting and her extensive experience working in some of the best kitchens in South Africa. Her adventures over the last 20 years have gained her a wealth of culinary experience. Highlights include Boschendal and Vergelegen wine estates and Londolozi Game Reserve.
Breakfasts cater for every whim, from hearty English breakfast, to brioches and pastries. Lunch and dinner offerings include a range of delectable meals such as the Dargle Valley Pork Eye Rib roast or the Chicken breast with pancetta, mushrooms, asparagus and capers. With an emphasis on ‘Know the farmer’ ethos, ingredients are fresh, food is innovative and made with passion. The menu at Oaklands seems to draw its inspiration from its surroundings, where delicious, wholesome, country feasting for hearty appetities is the order of the day.
