Ballito is defined as a holiday town, and certainly has plenty of sights, activities and must-sees for vacationing visitors from all over the world. Not least of all are its gorgeous beaches, known for their warm water and long stretches of untouched sandy shores. It is within this idyllic setting that Luyt Brewery is situated, taking advantage of the surrounding beauty and irresistible vibe.

Luyt Brewery is a family-oriented company that focuses on excellent quality and even better tasting craft beers. Luyt Lager is loved for its crisp, clean taste that is ultimately refreshing, particularly on hot South African summer days, or while watching the Springboks play on a Saturday afternoon.

Luyt Lager was first produced in 1972 and founded by famous South African entrepreneur, politician and rugby administrator, Louis Luyt. Despite entering a market of firmly grounded South African beer labels, Luyt Lager did well, and became the beer of choice for many local beer enthusiasts. Soon afterwards, this brewery produced the Kronenbraü 1308.

It also became the first brewery situated in any country other than Germany to be awarded a license to brew the ever-popular Becks Beer. However, South African Breweries took over this small family-run brewery when price wars took their toll. Louis Luyt and his family were determined to re-establish their personal, special brewery. Today, that dream has been realised, and the Luyts are once again producing their premium beer for locals and tourists to savour.

The Luyt Brewery has a modern, but charming, atmosphere; with the use of plenty of wood, glass and stone to keep the corners clean and the ambience inviting. The brewery and its workings are behind the glass wall, so those visiting and tasting the delicious flavours are able to see right into the room in which these hoppy aromas and crisp bubbles are created.

The Luyt Lounge is open from 17h00 to 20h00 every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Ballito is only 40 kilometres from all of the facilities and amenities of Durban’s city centre.
