About Visit the Ladysmith Town Hall

When in Ladysmith, make a trip to the Town Hall and discover a building that is brimming with history and fascinating facts. The Ladysmith Town Hall was originally built in 1983 and by the 1900’s was rebuilt to accommodate the growing needs of the town. Once again in 1923 the building needed expanding due the increasing growth of the town.

The Town hall was used as a hospital during the siege and a Red Cross flag was placed on the clock tower. In 1899 the tower was hit by Boer artillery and the corner of the building was destroyed. After attacks were made at the town hall it was decided to move the hospital to a safer location in Intombi camp. When you visit Ladysmith Town hall now, you will notice two old cannons used by the British during the siege on Ladysmith. They were found in an old railway shed in Port Elizabeth and were delivered to Ladysmith hastily to fight off the Boer’s Long Tom Cannons.

A visit here is certainly a worthwhile trip, where you will be able to see many fascinating things and learn interesting information.
