Kloofing in the Injisuthi valley is a 6-7 hour round trip. The Injisuthi valley is the hidden gem of the Drakensberg, as it is situated in the rural area of Loskop and therefore has not been developed for the tourism industry. The only accommodation in the area is the Injisuthi Parks Board.
We drive in convoy (with your own vehicle) to the Valley, from our base at Dragon Peaks, in the Central Drakensberg, a 90km round trip. Vehicles are left at the foot of the mountain in the care of a car guard. The hike up takes about an hour. We then descend the kloof by abseiling down a cascade of waterfalls.
No previous abseiling experience is needed. The abseils are all done by passive rappelling, in other words the guide lowers you down. This is quite a physical day out, so we do advise people to have a rather hi level of fitness. A light lunch is provided halfway down.
Extreme Rating: 9 (Extreme Rating: mild 1- wild 10).
