This hike can be divided into two separate walks, or combined. To reach Fairy Glen is an easy 4 km walk from the east end of the campsite. It is also easy to find. Merely cross the Mahai River and then follow the path to Fairy Glen and Sunday Falls.
As you are about to reach the crossing of the Golide Stream, Fairy Glen branches off to the left, climbing gently to the glen – a favourite spot for picnics and a lovely space in which to spend time.
Head on along the trail as it begins to steadily climb up to the base of Plowman's Kop cliffs. Here the path heads right and begins to zigzag before leveling off just before the path again splits. Take the left path, a rather faint trail, to the Grotto. There is a lovely waterfall over the cliffs.
The Grotto is actually two gorges worn through the sandstone. Explore both and then return along the same trail back to Mahai.
