Durban is one of South Africa’s major tourist metropolises, and certainly offers no shortage of things to do and places to go. It is the capital city of KwaZulu-Natal, and home to the King Shaka International Airport. Californian Dreaming is a trendy eatery right on the Golden Mile, along the long stretch of beachfront that lures visitors from all around the world year after year.
This is a modern restaurant that makes use of plenty of light and air to take advantage of the stunning setting. Diners can enjoy amazing seafood and delicious cocktails while looking at the palm trees and the waters of the warm Indian Ocean. There are two beach bars, at which beers, wines, spirits and coolers can be bought, as well as a range of cocktails and signature drinks. This is ideal for sundowners, as nature puts on a show that it unrivalled.
The restaurant is open for breakfasts, lunches and dinners and their menu is impressive, catering for 400 seated patrons at a time. Starters include pear and cranberry salad, wild mushroom bruschetta, citrus prawn salad, and shredded Asian duck springrolls. Light meals like wraps, gourmet sandwiches and traditional bunny chows are always a favourite, as are the various curries (for which Durban is renowned). Seafood is Californian Dreaming’s speciality, and it is no surprise when one peruses the menu. Prawns, lemon caper line fish, Mauritian seafood curry, and three sauce calamari all await the hungry visitor. Other mains include a variety of steaks and poultry dishes. Little ones have a bespoke menu to appeal to their taste buds.
The sundeck is conveniently bedecked with loungers. On the Terrace, diners can enjoy a variety of platters, which include stunning seafood options.
