About Bivane 4x4 Trail
The Bivane 4x4 Trail is a 17-kilometre one that winds, climbs and plummets through the Ithala Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. This part of the country is balmy, with subtropical climate conditions almost all year round. The vegetation is lush and green, promising magnificent landscapes for explorers to enjoy.
The trail takes about five hours to complete, thanks to the rugged, rocky terrain and has a grading of between 3 and 5. There are some river crossings too. It requires low range, high clearance vehicles. The self-drive route is challenging, but the vistas are nothing short of awe-inspiring.
The Bivane 4 x 4 Trail is suitable all year round. However, when there have been heavy rains, it is treacherous in places. Therefore, visitors are advised to phone ahead to check whether the trail will be suitable at the time at which they plan to come.
The Bivane Trail is only 15 kilometres from Louwsburg. Ithala Game Reserve boasts a restaurant, bar, coffee shop and curio shop for the convenience of those tackling the trail. It is home to a stunning variety of fauna and flora, as well as some of the oldest rock formations in the world. Visitors may also opt for guided walks and mountain bike cycles through the reserve.
