About Saffron Indian Restaurant

One step into Saffron and you’ll be mesmerized by the scent of spices and incense wafting through the air. Named after a spice that is purported to be the most expensive in the world, due to the intense laboriousness of hand-plucking stigmas from each individual flower, the name Saffron offers diners a sense of the rare journey that awaits them – and the intense care taken with each dish.

Inspired by North Indian cuisine, the dishes on the menu are all created in perfect harmony with the spices and herbs form the region. Indian spices are also sold in the restaurant, challenging diners to create a few of their own dishes at home. Begin your meal with a few traditional starters, such as the Pakoda, Onion Bhajia and Samoosas. The various platters offer diners the opportunity to share and and indulge in different flavours, such as chicken reshmi, chicken tikka, lamb shish kebab and spinach quiche, served with a sweet and mint dip. Order Naan bread to enjoy with your main meal, and a delicious wine to compliment the spicy flavours.

Starting with poultry dishes, all the favourites are there, from Chicken Korma, to the lesser known Chicken Makhnie (chicken in tomato and butter gravy) and Palak (chicken in spinach and cream). We hear they serve a life-changing Tandoori, cooked in the traditional way inside a Tandoori oven. The seafood menu sounds spectacular, with dishes like Prawn Korma (prawns cooked in cashew nuts) and Queen Prawns cooked in a spicy gravy. The Lamb Atchar Masala is something a little different (cooked with mango pickle), and then we’ve never sampled Tandoori Lamb Chops before.

Vegetarians are well catered for, with the most decadent veg curries this side of India – in fact dishes such as the Aloo Gobi Matar, Navrattan Korma and Dhal would convince meat-eaters to sway to the veggie side.
