About Gallery 2
Situated on Jan Smuts Avenue in Parkwood, Johannesburg, Gallery 2 is in the prime position to showcase some of South Africa’s up-and-coming artist and to provide the ideal platform for better known, more established creatives. In fact, since it was opened almost two decades ago, Gallery 2 has forged ahead and gained one of the most respected names in the local art scene. Today, it is a leader in South African fine art galleries.
Previously known as Gallery on the Square, Gallery 2 is committed to exhibiting well established artists as well as new ones with contemporary styles and an adventurous approach to all things creative. In addition, Gallery 2 plays an important role in supporting a number of local development projects that aid individuals and communities by using the power of art.
It is situated in what has come to be known as the Art Strip, providing visitors with a one-stop-shop for various media and artists. Visual art is a massive part of the South African culture, and it is integral to the identity and context of this dynamic country. The vibrancy of the land and its people has deep roots - some tragic, others triumphant. And these are explored, dissected, healed and represented so effectively in the creations of the artists featured at Gallery 2.
Parkwood is flanked by Rosebank and Saxonwold, and is a suburb of beautiful homes and spacious properties. It is close to a number of major urban, retail and commercial epicentres.
