The Braamfontein Spruit Trail is suitable for children, so you wonít need to find a baby sitter while youíre out on the trail. 9km in length this trail is along the Braamfontein Spruit which forms part of the main drainage system for northern parts of Johannesburg and is also one of the main sources of the Limpopo River (something to entertain the kids with if they start to get bored).
Park your car near the Field and Study Centre before beginning the short walk of 100 metres down to the river bank. Youíll then cross the river over a weir. Please note if the water in the river is strong flowing it is better to park at the Pick n Pay on William Nichol Drive and begin the walk here. Once on the path you follow the river bank in a northerly direction, through patches of blue gum trees and a few rock pools.
This is one of the most beautiful sections of the river and is dotted with birdlife, trees and other wildlife. There is an option to end the trail at Witkoppen Road, but you need to be met there with a vehicle, if you donít have this luxury you will need to return back along the route you came.
