About Sedgefield Craft Brewery

Perched on the N2, the highway that sweeps through the pristine beauty of the Garden Route, is the Scarab Village, which holds the promise of many a delightful hour spent sampling the delicious brews of the Sedgefield Craft Brewery.

This is a boutique-style micro craft brewery that is family-run, infusing every brew and golden hue with a passion that is backed by knowledge and experience. The beers are of a high quality, and the people behind the label ensure that visitors get to see and know each brew, enjoying them to the last drop.

The custom ales comprise

Blonde Ale (3.5%)
A light beer that is clean and crisp, with less of a bitter taste than other, more complex ones. This is a great option for committed beer lovers as well as for those that simply like a cold brew on a hot day. It is made from a combination of South African and German hops.

Indian Pale Ale (6%)
This Indian Pale Ale has a glorious amber colour and is characterised by its spicy, fruity, earthy flavour. It is rather hoppy, and a little bitterer than the Blonde.

Irish Red Ale (4.5%)
So named for its reddish hue, this has a low to moderate hop flavour that boasts distinctive caramel undertones and a dry finish. It is easy to drink and complex enough to make it interesting.

While these standard favourites are on offer, the craft brewery is always in the process of making new and unique speciality beers. These include porter and Weiss varieties. And, for special occasions, there is the American Pale Ale (known as the Tiddly Tortoise). Visitors simply need to pop in and see what the special offer is at any given time.

All of the beers are hand-crafted, using only the best quality hops, barley, yeast and filtered water. No preservatives or maize are used. Free tastings of the beers are conducted from the brewery itself, and there are ice-cold bottled beers to purchase on site.

Scarab Village is between Knysna and George, along one of the country’s most beautiful stretches of motorway. Look out for the Scarab Village sign at the Engen 1-Stop filling station, about one kilometre from the little town centre of Sedgefield towards George.
