The Indian Ocean laps the Eastern Cape coastline of South Africa for mile after beautiful mile. These warm sea waters are home to so many wonderfully exciting marine species, including whales. Ocean Xtreme is based in Cintsa (near East London), and takes full advantage of the sheer beauty and adventure of this part of the African shores.
Ocean Xtreme skirts the Cintsa coast in an inflatable boat. Visitors can choose between a MILD or WILD experience, or a combination of the two. All of the rides last for about an hour.
A MILD ride is a slow cruise out to sea, enjoying the clear blue all around while keeping an eye out for the dolphins that frequent the coast and the humpback and southern right whales that visit this part of the country between July and December every year.
The WILD ride is just that. It involves an action-packed surge through the waves, jumping them in the boat and feeling the salty splash in your hair, and plenty of speed. Those who want some action, but are not up to a full hour of adrenalin can combine the MILD and the WILD and get the best of both worlds.
The dolphins are playful, and tend to frolic near the boat, seemingly aware of the show that they are putting on for eager spectators. The whales are just as curious as their viewers, and love to explore the waters and sometimes get fairly close to the boats that visit them.
Visitors can come on their own or in groups of six or seven people, in which case both of the boats will be used. Any adventurer over six years of age is welcome, as long as they are in relatively good health. A GO-PRO is used on each journey to document your ocean excursion, capturing memories to last a lifetime.
