About North End Lake
The North End Lake is a beautiful oasis in the middle of a residential and industrial suburb of North End. This lake is also known as the Linden or Linton Reservoir, and offers stunning views to hundreds of the homes and business around North End and Port Elizabeth.
At its deepest point, the lake is about four metres, but averages a depth of three metres. It is popular amongst fishermen and watersports enthusiasts. Folk can often be seen fishing and boating, even skiing on the azure waters.
All around the lake, the verdant grassy banks invite locals and visitors alike to enjoy a picnic in the heart of the city. The lake is situated right next to the massive new stadium, which was built especially for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ football matches. This stadium is testimony to top South African architecture, and hosts a number of sporting and entertainment events.
The Greenacres Shopping Centre is only a few minutes’ drive from North End Lake, and offers shopaholics the prime opportunity to spend a day exploring the fashions and foody getaways of the Friendly City. In addition, Port Elizabeth’s beaches are accessible via the highways from North End, and promise days of fun in the warm South African sunshine.
