Situated in the valley known as the Baakens River, Settlers Park is home to more than 100 species of South African birds including the Peregrine Falcon, Swee Waxbill, Kingfisher species, Knysna Turaco, the Knysna Woodpecker, Southern Tchagra, various species of sunbirds, Forest Canary and plenty more.
In addition to the variety of birdlife, animals such as the rather large tortoises, meerkats, rabbits, small buck, mongoose, guinea fowls can be seen in the Park. Also of interest is the Maquette of the 1820 Settlers’ Statue and whilst you are there, take a look at the Flower Display House if beautiful floral displays are your thing.
Settlers Park offers numerous walks, 8km hiking trails and mountain biking opportunities. Birdlife Eastern Cape organises bird walks from the Main Car Park on the on the 1st Saturday and 3rd Thursday of the month, starting 08h00 in summer and 08h30 in winter.
