About Agava –The Spirit Of The Karoo
This attraction has closed.
Just North of Graaff Reinet you will find a South African distillery that produces the famous Agave sprit, known to many as tequila. This brand is much smoother than some of the other South African spirits such as mampoer and witblits.
Similar to the French having claims on the name champagne, the Mexicans have the rights to the name tequila therefore this fabulous South African brand has been named after the plant it is made from.
The distillery opened in 1998 and since new ownership in 2000 it has been producing around 75000 liters of Agava Spirits per month. This fabulous produce is now exported around the world.
Tours around the distillery can be arranged but bookings are required. While on tour you can see how this fabulous spirit is made and sample both the silver and gold Agava.
