Although a lot of the area around the town is known as Pinetown, Pinetown proper extends between Caversham Glen and Manors. It was originally established in the mid 19th century around the Wayside Hotel, which lay directly on the wagon route between Durban and Pietermaritzburg and was the unfortunate site of one of the British concentration camps during the Anglo Boer War....
