Wine Tasting Trips in the Cape Winelands: Always having the taste buds for delicious red wine, my husband and I always go wine tasting in the Winelands area whenever we visit Cape Town. We have explored Boschendaal, Neetlingshof, Durbanville Hills and Nederburg. The winelands area is exquisitely beautiful and always a pleasure to explore! It does not matter if it takes you 1-2 hours to find a wine farm because the area is so magnificent to admire.

Neetlingshof was the first winefarm we explored. As we entered the farm, we turned into a long pathway of stunning pine trees and a shimmering water feature. Neetlingshof boasts large lush gardens filled with stunning rose bushes, tall oak trees, water features and a gorgeous restaurant. We knew that if we started wine tasting on an empty stomach it would be a fatal mistake so we headed off to the restaurant first.

As we sat under the old oak trees, we feasted on delectable meals and enjoyed the occasional refreshing breeze. We eyed out the tempting dessert bowls filled with cream and gooseberries but knew that there was just no space left in our satisfied stomachs. The wine tasting was absolutely delicious and fascinating. We witnessed their large cellar and gorgeous old wine bottles for sale. Some bottles boasted a vintage of 1987 and less which we could not resist buying. At Neetlingshof, we could also purchase Stellenzicht wines. Many of their wines have been awarded the Golden Triangle and are absolutely delicious.

Boschendaal was another superb experience and is a wine farm boasting exquisite beauty. We admired their large open fields, tall oak trees, glistening streams and gorgeous ducks and swans which roam this wine farm. Once again, we headed off to the restaurant. As we enjoyed our tasty meals, we were welcomed by the ducks who wanted to join. After a few bites, we fed them bits of bread and headed off to the wine tasting. Although there were very few wines I enjoyed, Boschendaal was a lovely and relaxing experience. We never had the chance to, but if you ever visit Boschendaal, order one of their picnic baskets and sit under their beautiful trees. It’s a truly idyllic and peaceful wine farm.

Durbanville Hills is a rather unique wine farm. Whereas other wine farms boast the Old Cape Dutch architecture, Durbanville Hills boasts a rather modern building as well as a modern way of making their wines. We were rather surprised by the building and enjoyed its uniqueness. Durbanville Hill’s wines are very delicious with plenty of body and taste leaving your mouth truly refreshed and wanting more. The view from this building is absolutely superlative! Upstairs there is a gorgeous restaurant with very modern amenities and décor. Durbanville Hills was a lovely experience.

Nederburg is one of the most popular and well-known wines in South Africa. Therefore, we just had to visit this winefarm. On our way there, we became rather lost but completely swept away by the beauty of the area. Nederburg is nestled between tall mountains, waterfalls and lush forests. The wine farm is stunning. We were rather disappointed at the fact that there was no restaurant so we headed straight to the wine tasting. Thankfully, we had already eaten. We were able to taste a few new and unknown wines as well as their old vintage wines. When we spotted their tall 2lt 1998 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, we just had to get it!

All these wine farms were spectacular and nestled in exquisite terrains. We will definitely continue our quest of exploring more wine farms in the near future.
