FUN AT USHAKA MARINE WORLD

North Coast DolphinsFun for Everyone!! If you are traveling with kids, you will have to take a day and go to Ushaka Marine World. It’s a great stop no matter what age of traveling companion you are exploring with. We certainly had fun there.

It was one of the few parts of the trip that didn’t have a single family member mumbling about boredom (which isn’t surprising, none of the animal related activities we tried were boring). Ushaka Marine World is both an aquarium and a theme park. It has Dolphin World complete with trained dolphin shows, it has a Sea World and I had fun going shopping in the Treasure World Retail village. When do I not love shopping? It’s probably best that you not ask my family that question. But, you know, my holiday shopping is done now so we’ll see who gets the last laugh.

My kids loved the water slides and I loved that they could be so entertained while the hubby and I relaxed in the sun (when we weren’t going down the slides ourselves).

The tourism info on the park is this: It has seventeen hectares of beachfront and is Africa’s largest marine Park. It incorporates fresh and salt water, natural minerals and the recreation of a 1940’s cargoship wreck. We all loved the cargo ship wreck, but sadly there were no Johnny Depp pirates running around. Trust me, I looked quite thoroughly!!

It really was a fantastic day trip. We spent the whole day there, exploring, taking in the dolphin shows and eating some really great food. The kids’ favorite part was meeting Gambit, but I really loved the shopping and spending a couple of hours lying in the sun. We probably could have spent our entire vacation there and if we go back to South Africa I’m fairly certain that’s what we will do.
